FAQs

Who should attend the Academy?

We encourage schools to send 3-5 members of their interdisciplinary school wellness team to attend the Academy together. We welcome attendees with a wide range of roles within your school building, both administrative (e.g., assistant principal, department chair) and non-administrative (e.g., school psychologist, teacher, nurse). If you need more guidance on who to send to the Academy, please see the WSCC Academy Preparation Activities section of this website.

Can I attend the Academy alone?

While the Academy is designed for school teams, individuals are welcome to join us, too. Although there will be time for school teams to work together, individuals will be able to complete the same activities and bring the work to their schools for more input from team members.

Can we attend the Academy virtually?

We are excited about the interactive nature of the Academy’s activities, and we are focused on providing an engaging in-person professional learning experience for attendees. Therefore, we are not offering a virtual attendance option.

What does the Academy cost?

There are no costs associated with attending the Academy. There is no registration fee, all materials will be provided free of charge, parking will be validated, and all food is complimentary.

Will food be served at the Academy?

Yes! Academy attendees will be provided with lunch on-site. Additional details about the lunch menu will be shared with registered attendees in the weeks leading up to the Academy. Attendees are also invited to join us for a Welcome Breakfast from 8:30-9:00 before our first learning session of the day. All food is complimentary.

What should we do to prepare for the Academy?
Attendees are invited to complete three activities to prepare for the Academy. These activities are optional but recommended for attendees to make the most out of the day. Please see the WSCC Preparation Activities section of this website for more information.

What should we bring with us to the Academy?
We request that attendees bring a physical copy or picture of their completed System Map to the Academy (see the WSCC Academy Preparation Activities section of this website for more information). All other materials needed for participation in the day’s activities will be provided. Attendees may wish to bring a laptop or tablet to take their own notes, access their school’s resources (e.g., website, student handbook, wellness policy), or access digital copies of Academy materials. Wireless internet will be available to attendees.

Where do I park for the Academy and how much does it cost?
The Academy is being held at the UConn Hartford Times Building (10 Prospect Street, Hartford, 06103). See parking instructions. Parking will be fully validated for attendees who park in the Convention Center Garage (100 Columbus Boulevard). The Convention Center Garage is a short walk from the UConn Hartford Times Building. Please bring your parking ticket with you to the Academy (do not leave it in your car); we will address parking validation at the end of the day. Attendees are welcome to find on-street parking or to utilize other garages in the areas, but we will be unable to provide parking validation for those sites.
